Get your costumes ready all you ghosts and goblins! It’s almost time for Trick-or-Treating on Mainstreet! Saturday, October 28th from 2pm-4pm the merchants of Mainstreet Bowness will be handing out candy to all the kids!
Here’s what’s on the agenda for the day:
1:30pm: Pet Costume Parade at Atomic Dog - Dress your dog in their favourite costume so they can “strut their stuff” on the “cat walk”! Prizes for the best costumes and the first 100 dogs gets a gift!
2-4pm: Meet at Bowness Auto to start your trick-or-treating! Receive your voting card to pick your favourite carved pumpkins on the trick-or-treating route

October is Socktober on Mainstreet Bowness!
DONATE your SOCKS! Calling all “sock wearers”! Local Bownesians (residents who live in Bowness) need your help. The Mainstreet Bowness BIA has “paired" up” with Sock Rocket, a local sock company and social enterprise, to collect and donate socks during our Socktober campaign.
Every October the Mainstreet Bowness businesses collect socks to help local Bownesians keep their tootsies warm. Rona Bowness has donated a 5 gallon bucket for each business to collect NEW or gently used, clean socks. If we can collect 1000 pairs of socks, Sock Rocket will donate another 1000 pairs! That’s AMAZING!!!
Soooo, dig DEEP into those sock drawers and grab those socks you don’t wear - or purchase some NEW socks and drop them off at any one of your favourite businesses on Mainstreet Bowness Rd. NW
Thank you for helping the local businesses on Mainstreet Bowness collect socks for local residents of Bowness in need.

Mainstreet Bowness Christmas Communi-TREE Challenge
Over “50” community members came out to decorate their Mainstreet Bowness Christmas Communi-TREE on Saturday! A huge thank you goes out to everyone who made it such a great day. The wind was blowing hard but that didn’t stop these community-TREE Challengers!
Thank you Santa and your elves from YYC Princess for coming around and taking photos with the kids and Urban Audio YYC for offering your dancing Santa DJ and Cadence Coffee for offering FREE hot chocolate to all of our participants and spectators! It was a GREAT day for the Mainstreet Bowness BIA!

Mainstreet Bowness Christmas Communi-TREE Challenge!
Mark your calendars - Coming to “Mainstreet Bowness” this Saturday, November 20th from 1-3pm is the FIRST EVER Mainstreet Bowness Christmas Communi-TREE Challenge! EVERYONE is welcome to come out and stroll the street while taking part in the ACTION!
TEN local community groups will “battle” it out and decorate a tree on Mainstreet for the holiday season. Each group will decorate their own tree while a Christmas DJ from Urban Audio Canada plays toe-tapping tunes and Santa along with his elves from YYC Princess roam the strip for photos! To warm everyone up, FREE hot chocolate can be enjoyed from Cadence Coffee! After everyone is done decorating you can VOTE on your favourite TREE!

Bowness is Awesome Mural Jam
Mainstreet Bowness Rd. NW comes to life with colour and music this weekend, August 14/15, to bring you the “Bowness is Awesome” Mural Jam! Mixed Manifest and the Mainstreet Bowness BIA have partnered together to bring you this amazing family friendly, all ages, no admission, FREE weekend filled with creativity and art! Murals will be painted on buildings and sidewalks throughout the business district between 62nd street and 65th street NW.
DJ’s will be playing both Saturday and Sunday from 11-7pm in front of Leopold’s Tavern with a PopUp Art Market just beside. Carstar Bowness will host a Paint Ball Throwing Fundraiser for the Bowness Boys & Girls Club while Atomic Dog hosts their Customer Appreciation Day! Need to learn about thrifting, join in the fun at the Women in Need Society store for tips and tricks o becoming a better “Thrifter!” :—) If you get hungry our friends at Munchies will have 10% off food all day! All this ACTION and MORE will be coming at you this weekend, at the “Bowness is Awesome” Mural Jam! We can’t wait to see you!

We LOVE Mainstreet for so may reasons! Why do YOU?
February is HEART MONTH but also the month we celebrate LOVE! Sooo, we wanted to take to the “streets” and see exaclty why business owners, employees, customers and local Bownesians LOVE Mainstreet Bowness. Here are a few awesome people we caught on camera who LOVE our little downtown business district - and why they love our beloved Mainstreet!
Annie and Anna (yes they are twins) love all their regular customers at Cadence Coffee and that everything they need is so close to everything. Thanks for making us such great lattes and cappuccinos ladies! :—) Can you guess who is Anna and who is Annie?
Paul Ackerman is a local Bownesian and a realtor in Bowness. He loves the fact that Bowness has its own little downtown business district, which you can’t find in every community!
Early in 2021 we welcomed Sherry and Vishal to Mainstreet Bowness. They are the NEW owners of the One Stop convenience store (formerly 7/11 location). Congratulations to you both! We are happy to have you on the “strip”. They love being a local business in Calgary, especially in Bowness!
This friendly lady is Janice. Janice works at the local Bowness Pharmacy and she loves Mainstreet because all her customers are great people. Stop by and say hello to her next time you’re in the area.
You might not see this awesome lady when you head into Bow Cycle, but she’s always around. Jo is the Assistant Sales Manager and she’s a major part of their business. Need a bike…? Jo will help you get the one you want. Jo’s favourite part of Mainstreet is the diversity of the businesses in the area. She also loves that Bow Cycle is such a community supported business in Bowness.
Say hello to this lovely lady named Andrea. Andrea is a “regular” on Mainstreet because she loves to shop local. She loves the fact that everything is so close and she doesn’t have to leave Bowness! Andrea is also an artist. You might have seen her work at the Bowness Community Association and with local programs in our neighbourhood. Thanks for being a big part of Bowness Andrea!
You might know this guy - because he’s somewhat of a “Rockstar” in Bowness! Doug Waite is a local Bownesian who you might see strumming his guitar during the summer months on our corners of Mainstreet. Doug loves that he can see all his friends and neighbours out and about when he’s doing what loves - playing music for the masses! Thank you for all you do for our community Doug! :—)

Well, while we’re talking about our friends in Montgomery, we might as well talk about these guys too. This year we’ve “paired up” with Sock Rocket, a local sock company and social enterprise! The team at Sock Rocket has generously offered to donate up to 1000 pairs of their own socks if WE collect 1000 pairs from our community. That’s DOUBLE the amount then we collected last year! LET’S DO IT!!!
Sock Rocket is a Calgary-based sock company and social enterprise. They sell awesome funky socks across the world. For every pair they sell they will donate ‘THREE’ pairs to agencies and initiatives like SOCKTOBER that are helping “Bownesians” in need.
Sock collection boxes hit businesses October 1st. So dig deep and start hunting for those “gently used and/or new socks” and give to those in your community that need them most for this upcoming winter season.
